    Scientific name: Platanus occidentalis
    Commonly known as Sycamore, American Plane, Buttonwood or Lacewood.
    It is one of my favorite trees !

    Denise, you are correct. Thanks for all the common names, too.

    Here’s another curious piece of information. According to The Tree Book by Gina Ingoglia, “the London planetree (Platanus x acerifolia) is a hybrid of the sycamore tree of the eastern United States and the oriental planetree of southeastern Europe and Asia Minor.” No wonder I was confused when I saw the London planetree (in London, England) and thought I was seeing a sycamore. In a way, I was!
